- Severity: critical (CVSS 9.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.6% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-03-19 · updated 2026-07-15
- Weakness: CWE-122
Description
XML::Parser versions through 2.47 for Perl has an off-by-one heap buffer overflow in st_serial_stack. In the case (stackptr == stacksize - 1), the stack will NOT be expanded. Then the new value will be written at location (++stackptr), which equals stacksize and therefore falls just outside the allocated buffer. The bug can be observed when parsing an XML file with very deep element nesting
Affected products
- TODDR Xml::Parser: before 2.48 — fixed in 2.48
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: TODDR Xml::Parser 2.48. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
