CVE-2011-3630
- Severity: high (CVSS 8.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 2.7% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2019-11-26 · updated 2026-06-16
- Weakness: CWE-787
Description
Hardlink before 0.1.2 suffer from multiple stack-based buffer overflow flaws because of the way directory trees with deeply nested directories are processed. A remote attacker could provide a specially-crafted directory tree, and trick the local user into consolidating it, leading to hardlink executable crash, or, potentially arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the user running the hardlink executable.
Affected products
- Debian Linux: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
- Hardlink Project Hardlink: before 0.1.2 — fixed in 0.1.2
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux: 5.0, 6.0
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Hardlink Project Hardlink 0.1.2. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
