CVE-2013-5960
- Severity: medium (CVSS 5.8 v2.0)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 1.7% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: yes
- Published: 2013-09-30 · updated 2026-06-16
- Weakness: CWE-310
Description
The authenticated-encryption feature in the symmetric-encryption implementation in the OWASP Enterprise Security API (ESAPI) for Java 2.x before 2.1.0.1 does not properly resist tampering with serialized ciphertext, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass intended cryptographic protection mechanisms via an attack against the intended cipher mode in a non-default configuration, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-5679.
Affected products
- OWASP Enterprise Security Api: from 2.0 before 2.1.0.1 — fixed in 2.1.0.1
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: OWASP Enterprise Security Api 2.1.0.1. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
