CVE-2014-3515
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.5 v2.0)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 30.1% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2014-07-09 · updated 2026-06-17
Description
The SPL component in PHP before 5.4.30 and 5.5.x before 5.5.14 incorrectly anticipates that certain data structures will have the array data type after unserialization, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted string that triggers use of a Hashtable destructor, related to "type confusion" issues in (1) ArrayObject and (2) SPLObjectStorage.
Affected products
- Debian Linux: 7.0, 8.0
- PHP: before 5.3.29; from 5.4.0 before 5.4.30; from 5.5.0 before 5.5.14 — fixed in 5.3.29, 5.4.30, 5.5.14
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: PHP 5.3.29, 5.4.30, 5.5.14. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
