CVE-2017-18222
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.8 v3.0)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.5% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2018-03-08 · updated 2026-06-17

Description
In the Linux kernel before 4.12, Hisilicon Network Subsystem (HNS) does not consider the ETH_SS_PRIV_FLAGS case when retrieving sset_count data, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (buffer overflow and memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact, as demonstrated by incompatibility between hns_get_sset_count and ethtool_get_strings.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: before 4.12 — fixed in 4.12
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 4.12. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
