CVE-2017-6347
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.4% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2017-03-01 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-125
Description
The ip_cmsg_recv_checksum function in net/ipv4/ip_sockglue.c in the Linux kernel before 4.10.1 has incorrect expectations about skb data layout, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (buffer over-read) or possibly have unspecified other impact via crafted system calls, as demonstrated by use of the MSG_MORE flag in conjunction with loopback UDP transmission.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: from 4.0 before 4.4.52; from 4.5 before 4.9.13; from 4.10 before 4.10.1 — fixed in 4.10.1, 4.4.52, 4.9.13
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 4.10.1, 4.4.52, 4.9.13. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
