CVE-2019-13139
- Severity: high (CVSS 8.4 v3.0)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 2.0% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: yes
- Published: 2019-08-22 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-78
Description
In Docker before 18.09.4, an attacker who is capable of supplying or manipulating the build path for the "docker build" command would be able to gain command execution. An issue exists in the way "docker build" processes remote git URLs, and results in command injection into the underlying "git clone" command, leading to code execution in the context of the user executing the "docker build" command. This occurs because git ref can be misinterpreted as a flag.
Affected products
- Docker Engine: before 18.09.4 — fixed in 18.09.4
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Docker Engine 18.09.4. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
