CVE-2020-14147
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.7 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 3.1% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2020-06-15 · updated 2026-06-17

Description
An integer overflow in the getnum function in lua_struct.c in Redis before 6.0.3 allows context-dependent attackers with permission to run Lua code in a Redis session to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly bypass intended sandbox restrictions via a large number, which triggers a stack-based buffer overflow. NOTE: this issue exists because of a CVE-2015-8080 regression.
Affected products
- Debian Linux: 10.0
- Oracle Corporation Communications Operations Monitor: 3.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3
- Redis Labs Redis: before 5.0.9; from 6.0.0 before 6.0.3 — fixed in 5.0.9, 6.0.3
- SUSE Linux Enterprise: 12.0
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Redis Labs Redis 5.0.9, 6.0.3. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
