CVE-2020-15005
- Severity: low (CVSS 3.1 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 1.3% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2020-06-24 · updated 2026-06-17
Description
In MediaWiki before 1.31.8, 1.32.x and 1.33.x before 1.33.4, and 1.34.x before 1.34.2, private wikis behind a caching server using the img_auth.php image authorization security feature may have had their files cached publicly, so any unauthorized user could view them. This occurs because Cache-Control and Vary headers were mishandled.
Affected products
- Debian Linux: 9.0, 10.0
- Fedoraproject Fedora: 32
- Wikimedia Foundation MediaWiki: before 1.31.8; from 1.32.0 before 1.33.4; from 1.34 before 1.34.2 — fixed in 1.31.8, 1.33.4, 1.34.2
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Wikimedia Foundation MediaWiki 1.31.8, 1.33.4, 1.34.2. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
