- Severity: medium (CVSS 5.5 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.2% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days

Description
A flaw was found in pesign. The pesign package provides a systemd service used to start the pesign daemon. This service unit runs a script to set ACLs for /etc/pki/pesign and /run/pesign directories to grant access privileges to users in the 'pesign' group. However, the script doesn't check for symbolic links. This could allow an attacker to gain access to privileged files and directories via a path traversal attack.
Affected products
- Fedoraproject Fedora: 36, 37
- pesign: before 116 — fixed in 116
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux: 7.0, 8.0, 9.0
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: pesign 116. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
