CVE-2023-45285: Command 'go get' may unexpectedly fallback to insecure git in cmd/go
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.5 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 1.1% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2023-12-06 · updated 2026-06-17
Description
Using go get to fetch a module with the ".git" suffix may unexpectedly fallback to the insecure "git://" protocol if the module is unavailable via the secure "https://" and "git+ssh://" protocols, even if GOINSECURE is not set for said module. This only affects users who are not using the module proxy and are fetching modules directly (i.e. GOPROXY=off).
Affected products
- Go: before 1.20.12; from 1.21.0-0 before 1.21.5 — fixed in 1.20.12, 1.21.5
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Go 1.20.12, 1.21.5. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
