CVE-2023-52494: bus: mhi: host: Add alignment check for event ring read pointer
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.3% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2024-03-11 · updated 2026-07-24
- Weakness: CWE-787
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bus: mhi: host: Add alignment check for event ring read pointer Though we do check the event ring read pointer by "is_valid_ring_ptr" to make sure it is in the buffer range, but there is another risk the pointer may be not aligned. Since we are expecting event ring elements are 128 bits(struct mhi_ring_element) aligned, an unaligned read pointer could lead to multiple issues like DoS or ring buffer memory corruption. So add a alignment check for event ring read pointer.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: from 5.13 before 5.15.149; from 5.16 before 6.1.76; from 6.2 before 6.6.15; from 6.7 before 6.7.3 — fixed in 5.15.149, 6.1.76, 6.6.15, 6.7.3
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 5.15.149, 6.1.76, 6.6.15, 6.7.3. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
