CVE-2024-38562: wifi: nl80211: Avoid address calculations via out of bounds array indexing
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.2% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2024-06-19 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-129
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: nl80211: Avoid address calculations via out of bounds array indexing Before request->channels[] can be used, request->n_channels must be set. Additionally, address calculations for memory after the "channels" array need to be calculated from the allocation base ("request") rather than via the first "out of bounds" index of "channels", otherwise run-time bounds checking will throw a warning.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: from 6.6 before 6.6.33; from 6.7 before 6.8.12; from 6.9 before 6.9.3 — fixed in 6.6.33, 6.8.12, 6.9.3
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 6.6.33, 6.8.12, 6.9.3. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
