CVE-2024-42128: leds: an30259a: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization
- Severity: medium (CVSS 5.5 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.2% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known

- Weakness: CWE-908
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: leds: an30259a: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization In this driver LEDs are registered using devm_led_classdev_register() so they are automatically unregistered after module's remove() is done. led_classdev_unregister() calls module's led_set_brightness() to turn off the LEDs and that callback uses mutex which was destroyed already in module's remove() so use devm API instead.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: from 4.20 before 6.6.39; from 6.7 before 6.9.9 — fixed in 6.6.39, 6.9.9
- Linux: 4.20 — fixed in 6.10
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 6.6.39, 6.9.9; Linux 6.10. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
