- Severity: medium (CVSS 5.3 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.8% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days

Description
Werkzeug is a Web Server Gateway Interface web application library. On Python < 3.11 on Windows, os.path.isabs() does not catch UNC paths like //server/share. Werkzeug's safe_join() relies on this check, and so can produce a path that is not safe, potentially allowing unintended access to data. Applications using Python >= 3.11, or not using Windows, are not vulnerable. Werkzeug version 3.0.6 contains a patch.
Affected products
- pallets werkzeug: before 3.0.6 — fixed in 3.0.6
- Pypi Werkzeug: before 3.0.6; 0.1, 0.10, 0.10.1, 0.10.2, 0.10.3, 0.10.4 (+90) — fixed in 3.0.6
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: pallets werkzeug 3.0.6; Pypi Werkzeug 3.0.6. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
