CVE-2025-13462: tarfile: Skip DIRTYPE normalization during GNU LONGNAME/LONGLINK handling
- Severity: low (CVSS 3.3 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.2% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-03-12 · updated 2026-08-13
- Weakness: CWE-20
Description
The "tarfile" module would still apply normalization of AREGTYPE (\x00) blocks to DIRTYPE, even while processing a multi-block member such as GNUTYPE_LONGNAME or GNUTYPE_LONGLINK. This could result in a crafted tar archive being misinterpreted by the tarfile module compared to other implementations.
