CVE-2025-5025: No QUIC certificate pinning with wolfSSL
- Severity: medium (CVSS 4.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.3% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: yes
- Published: 2025-05-28 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-295
Description
libcurl supports *pinning* of the server certificate public key for HTTPS transfers. Due to an omission, this check is not performed when connecting with QUIC for HTTP/3, when the TLS backend is wolfSSL. Documentation says the option works with wolfSSL, failing to specify that it does not for QUIC and HTTP/3. Since pinning makes the transfer succeed if the pin is fine, users could unwittingly connect to an impostor server without noticing.
Affected products
- curl: from 8.5.0 before 8.14.0 — fixed in 8.14.0
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: curl 8.14.0. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
