CVE-2026-109339: SurrealDB 3.1.0 before 3.3.0 Memory Exhaustion via Surrealism Module Output Buffering
- Severity: medium (CVSS 4.9 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.4% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-10-12 · updated 2026-10-16
- Weakness: CWE-770
Description
SurrealDB 3.1.0 before 3.3.0 lets Surrealism modules exhaust server memory because module stdout/stderr lines are buffered unbounded in host memory, bypassing the configured module memory limit. An attacker can run an Owner-installed malicious module that writes output without newlines, crashing the server and denying service to all namespaces and databases.
Affected products
- surrealdb: from 3.1.0 before 3.3.0 — fixed in 3.3.0
- surrealdb surrealism-runtime: from 0.3.0 before 0.6.0 — fixed in 0.6.0
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: surrealdb 3.3.0; surrealdb surrealism-runtime 0.6.0. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
