CVE-2026-112368: Unbounded Recursion in phongo_bson_visit_document/visit_array:
- Severity: high (CVSS 7.5 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.3% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-10-19 · updated 2026-10-20
- Weakness: CWE-674
Description
An uncontrolled recursion weakness in the BSON decoding logic of the MongoDB PHP driver may allow an unauthenticated party who can supply crafted binary document data to the decoder to exhaust the process stack. This may cause the PHP process using the driver to terminate unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of availability for that process. The condition occurs below the PHP layer and cannot be intercepted by application-level error handling.
Affected products
- MongoDB PHP Driver: from 1.0.0 before 1.21.12; from 2.1.0 before 2.1.12; from 2.5.0 before 2.5.5 — fixed in 1.21.12, 2.1.12, 2.5.5
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: MongoDB PHP Driver 1.21.12, 2.1.12, 2.5.5. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
