CVE-2026-11791: 389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: use-after-free in schema reload via attr_syntax_swap_ht()
- Severity: medium (CVSS 5.0 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.4% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-06-18 · updated 2026-06-30
- Weakness: CWE-416
Description
A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. During schema reload, the attr_syntax_swap_ht() function unconditionally frees attribute syntax information nodes, bypassing the refcount-based deferred deletion used elsewhere in the attribute syntax subsystem. If an administrator triggers schema reload while concurrent LDAP query traffic is active, worker threads may access freed memory, resulting in use-after-free or double-free and a denial of service (server crash).
Affected products
- Red Hat 389 Directory Server: all versions
- RedHat Directory Server: 11.0, 12.0, 13.0
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux: 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
