CVE-2026-23246: wifi: mac80211: bounds-check link_id in ieee80211_ml_reconfiguration
- Severity: high (CVSS 8.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.3% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-03-18 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-129
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: bounds-check link_id in ieee80211_ml_reconfiguration link_id is taken from the ML Reconfiguration element (control & 0x000f), so it can be 0..15. link_removal_timeout[] has IEEE80211_MLD_MAX_NUM_LINKS (15) elements, so index 15 is out-of-bounds. Skip subelements with link_id >= IEEE80211_MLD_MAX_NUM_LINKS to avoid a stack out-of-bounds write.
Affected products
- Linux kernel: from 6.5.1 before 6.6.130; from 6.7 before 6.12.77; from 6.13 before 6.18.17; from 6.19 before 6.19.7; 6.5, 7.0-rc1 — fixed in 6.12.77, 6.18.17, 6.19.7, 6.6.130
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: Linux kernel 6.12.77, 6.18.17, 6.19.7, 6.6.130. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
