CVE-2026-28676: OpenSift: Insufficient path containment checks in storage helpers could allow path traversal-style file operations
- Severity: high (CVSS 8.8 v3.1)
- Exploited in the wild: not listed in CISA KEV
- EPSS: 0.4% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days
- Public exploit or detection template: none known
- Published: 2026-03-06 · updated 2026-06-17
- Weakness: CWE-22
Description
OpenSift is an AI study tool that sifts through large datasets using semantic search and generative AI. Prior to version 1.6.3-alpha, multiple storage helpers used path construction patterns that did not uniformly enforce base-directory containment. This created path-injection risk in file read/write/delete flows if malicious path-like values were introduced. This issue has been patched in version 1.6.3-alpha.
Affected products
- OpenSift: before 1.6.3 — fixed in 1.6.3
How to fix
Upgrade to a fixed version: OpenSift 1.6.3. Check the vendor advisory for mitigations.
